Timothy Peters wins NASCAR trucks race

Written By Unknown on Saturday, 14 July 2012 | 23:30

Timothy Peters left the best driver in NASCAR Truck Series history to beat once in a late restart.

Given another chance to Ron Hornaday Jr. with 10 laps to go, Peters took control and eventually took a victory to go along with his lead in the race for points.

Peters won the race in the NASCAR Truck Series at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night, diminishing their first win of the season and extend his points lead to 12 points over Justin Lofton.

And the victory of his career fourth Peters, who has passed Hornaday on the final restart of the race to become the third pole sitter to win a truck race in four events in Iowa

"I know that Ron is considered a reboot of the king," said Peters. "We started well and have a good restart and hit the corner."

Peters left his place Hornaday in the championship series four times with 51 victories in his career, in a rebound with just over 30 laps. But Peter has another shot Hornaday and use the low line to take the lead for good.

Hornaday finished second, followed by Matt Crafton, the winner in Iowa in 2011.

Johnny Sauter was fourth, and Lofton was fifth. James Buescher led 91 laps of the 200-mile Iowa oval 0.875 before blowing his right front tire two-thirds of the way through the race.

Hornaday said he was informed by his team just before they went to save fuel, which was probably half a lap short. Its tires were not in their best form, or leaving them without enough to keep at bay Peters.

"We had a pretty good truck. We made some changes in the operation. We played hard. Good enough," said Hornaday.

With the Sprint Cup and Nationwide regular in New Hampshire during the weekend, the number of trucks had a clear path for himself only the third time in nine races this year.

Peters, who went four points ahead of second place rider Lofton and rookie Ty Dillon, won the pole for the first time in 2012. Nelson Piquet Jr. also began in the first row, followed by Buescher and Lofton.

Peters took the bass line and lead slid past Buescher for 42 laps in the event. Buescher fell to fourth place as a result of a security, with Hornaday into the second, but Buescher regain the lead shortly after Peters Jason Leffler was released, resulting in a reboot.

Buescher Peters and quickly separated from the rest of the field, with Hornaday dropped more than three seconds behind in third place. But everything changed when the tire burst of Buescher, sending it to full speed in the high-banks oval to the steep wall of Iowa.

Sauter went to second place behind Peter, who seemed to have the race sewn surprisingly Hornaday took control just over 30 laps.

Hornaday holds his lead in a reboot earlier, but Peters has had the strongest trucks out there, leading to 87 laps.
