Versteeg avoids arbitration with four-year deal

Versteeg now seems to be a member of the Florida panthers into the foreseeable future, as he and his team have signed a four-year contract on Monday morning.

Versteeg was a restricted free agent and had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Monday in Toronto.

Versteeg and the team avoided arbitration with the contract worth $ 4.4 million a year.

"Kris has played an important role last season, the success of our club and we are pleased to have reached a long term contract with him," said GM Dale Tallón in a statement.

"We hope to continue their offensive production, as well as his contributions off the ice of the South Florida community."

Tallón originally brought Versteeg in Chicago in 2007 and became a regular Versteeg for the Blackhawks after the season and won the Stanley Cup in 2010.

Versteeg was transferred to Toronto after the championship run in Chicago, mainly for financial reasons, but not in tune with the maple leaves and was traded to Philadelphia for his playoff career.
