John Isner and U.S. Davis Cup saw firsthand that dominant position is not limited to Spain Rafael Nadal.
Ferrer defeated Isner 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 Sunday to give the champions five times ahead insurmountable 3-1 and a shot at a fourth title in five years.
They will face the Czech Republic on the way to the end.
Isner helped by 70 unforced errors, the fifth ranked Ferrer recovered to stay unbeaten on clay in the competition with its 16 straight victory.
Isner fell hitting the racket in frustration.
"Spain is the high tide mark to the Davis Cup in the last 15 years. Whenever we knew it would be close," said U.S. captain Jim Courier. "They have great individual players science, depth and passion for Davis Cup. NOT rocket. Has great ingredients and you should join and do a great job."
Ferrer and Nadal have said they would reduce the availability of the Davis Cup after helping to win the title last year's final against Argentina. While Nadal has been limited by injuries, Ferrer decided to return to his team now.
"This is the race where I felt most emotions are I am a team player," said Ferrer, who played a key role in Spain last three titles. "I do not know how long my career, so I do the best I can in the Davis Cup. (Captain Spain) Alex Corretja inspired me to play this season."
Spain extended its record winning streak to 24 straight and are unbeaten in the field of 26 series. His last loss was clay in 1999.
And, as in 2008, did not Christmas.
Isner had more unforced errors than twice as Ferrer capacity of nearly 15,000 seats instead of the Asturian coast. Seemed little "as the player who beat Roger Federer of Switzerland in the competition earlier this year.
"The Spanish team was very good," said Isner. "They won the important points, and is a bit of an unpleasant experience for me because I wanted to contribute as I did in the first two links, and that's a credit (Nicolas) Almagro and Ferrer, who won two My points of his. "
The American started well, breaking many of his last 28 straight winning an attempt Ferrer, who attacked the baseline. A couple of his 16 aces helped him get his head straight when Ferrer sailed much in the first set tie-break.
Isner broke up momentum quickly, though. He began struggling with his forehand, which helped Ferrer, who saved four of six break points he faced, draw and still find his rhythm.
Isner undid his step as he lost his service - he scored 143 mph in the 1 September Ferrer won a triple break point in the seventh game of the third set, and the 10 th ranked American hit a forehand long to be broken.
Later, Isner dropped his racket to the ground and kicked before Ferrer moved a game of victory.
"I was going to fight, but in the fourth set was a bit 'on a roll," said Isner. "I do not think it all points to release my service, I became a great service in the fourth set, and he was playing with confidence."
Isner frustration delivered the fourth set when he launched his racket to the ground and stepped back as Ferrer broke to go up 2-1.
