Redskins sign Billy Cundiff

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 28 August 2012 | 07:23

The Washington Redskins signed former Pro Bowl kicker Billy Cundiff on Tuesday.

The decision came two days after he was released by the Baltimore Ravens Cundiff and just a day after Washington cut Neil Rackers.

Cundiff, 32, is the second kicker Washington roster, joining Graham Gano. A Pro Bowl player in 2010, dropped Cundiff Sunday after the Ravens decided to keep rookie Justin Tucker not recruited, rather than nine years of experience.

Tucker was 5 of 5 on field goal during testing of the first five preseason games in Baltimore and showed the strength of his legs 32 years old Cundiff. Tucker made ??two field goals of 50 yards or more, Cundiff was 1 to 6 years past that distance.

Tucker was invited to camp as a free agent draft pick not to challenge Cundiff, who missed a potential tying the game, 32 yards against New England in the second drop in the AFC Championship Game. Ravens coach John Harbaugh liked the way he recovered from Cundiff Miss fundamental but decided Tucker was simply the best option for Baltimore in 2012.

The Redskins broke away from Rackers and win tabbed as their primary kicker after a contest that was decided mainly on the training field.

The Redskins attempted only two field goals in the first three preseason games, both Rackers. It is made from 28 yards and missed from 54.

Winning the 25-year-old lost the NFL maximum of 10 field goal attempts last season, but five are being blocked. He made 74 percent of his attempts since he joined the Redskins during the 2009 season, the second worst percentage in the NFL during that period.
